Most undergraduate courses take three or four years. Foundation, professional and placement routes can take longer.

The right comparison includes the course, the city and the time you will spend studying.
Use the international fee for your course.
Universities set different fees by subject and level. Check your fee status, the amount for your intake, and whether fees can rise in later years. A UK home-student fee headline may not apply to you.

The student healthcare surcharge is £776 per visa year, with part-year rules. Use the official calculation for your permission length and include the full upfront amount in your arrival budget, alongside the visa application fee.

GREAT offers £10,000 towards tuition for selected one-year taught postgraduate courses. India is an eligible country in the 2026/27 scheme. Universities, subjects and deadlines vary; a listed award is not necessarily still open.

During your course
Eligible full-time degree-level students at a compliant higher education sponsor can usually work up to 20 hours per week in term time. Other courses can have lower limits or no work permission. Follow your visa conditions and the university’s term dates.

The Graduate visa lasts two years if you apply by 31 December 2026, or 18 months from 1 January 2027. Doctoral graduates retain three years. You must meet the eligibility rules and apply in the UK before your Student permission expires.

Most undergraduate applications use UCAS; postgraduate applications are usually made directly to universities. Scholarship and accommodation dates belong on the same calendar.

The application date changes the time available
The Graduate route moves to 18 months for non-doctoral applications from 1 January 2027. A student starting now should plan around the rules expected when they finish, then recheck before applying.

Some deadlines arrive sooner than you think
The UCAS deadline for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses is 15 October 2026. Most other undergraduate courses have an equal-consideration deadline of 13 January 2027. Both are 18:00 UK time; check the course.
