01 / YOUR STARTING POINT

Where are you starting from?

Already in India? Choose your stage below. Coming from another country? Start with the international-applicant route.

A shortlist built around you.

Compare the course you want to study with the subjects, entrance requirements and budget you can meet. A familiar university name is only one part of the choice.

National Testing Agency · entrance examinations
  1. 01Check the exact degree, awarding university and any professional approval required.
  2. 02Map entrance-test registration, the university application and counselling as separate steps where applicable.
  3. 03Compare learning, housing and total course cost across a realistic mix of institutions.
Keep in mind

Taking an entrance test does not automatically submit every university application or secure a seat. Follow the institution’s admission notice.

02 / THE REAL COST

The fee is only the beginning.

The admission category, where you live and what you are actually buying change the total.

01

Ask for the complete fee schedule

Get tuition, examination and laboratory fees, compulsory charges and refund terms for every year. Separate university charges from optional services. International, NRI and domestic fee categories may differ.

02

Compare living at home with moving city

A hostel place, a daily commute and a private room lead to different budgets. Price meals, transport, equipment and deposits before treating two tuition quotes as comparable.

03

Check the qualification behind the promise

Verify the awarding institution and the relevant professional regulator where required. For placement claims, ask about the specific cohort, the number placed and the roles—not just the highest salary advertised.

What would your first year look like?

Change the example figures to match your shortlist. See the expenses and the cash you may need to set aside.

UNIVERSITY STUDY / 12 MONTHS / INR

An illustrative INR plan for a domestic student moving city for a fee-paying degree. It is not a quote from the campus pictured. Tuition and other fees are annual assumptions; monthly living includes housing, food, transport and everyday expenses. Arrival covers travel, applications and settling in. Use zero housing deposit if none is required. International applicants should replace every figure with their own fee category and include visa, insurance and travel costs once.

04 / FUNDING THE MOVE

Find the right kind of support.

Start with an affordable study plan. Then explore funding that matches your background.

01

Start with the scheme you qualify for

Use the National Scholarship Portal to find applicable schemes, then check domicile, income, category, course and institution conditions. Registration is not an award, and each scheme has its own deadline.

Explore the National Scholarship Portal
02

Ask the institution what continues

For merit or need-based support, get the amount, covered charges and renewal conditions in writing. Compare the net fee for the whole course, not only the first semester.

Check the awarding institution
03

International applicants: check the actual award

Study in India currently points applicants towards institution-led scholarships and fee waivers; the platform does not itself promise a scholarship. Ask which expenses an offer covers and which remain yours.

STUDY. WORK. UPSKILL.

Work during and after your studies.

Understand the study-related options, then prepare for the next stage.

Build experience during the course

Ask the department how internships, live projects and placements fit the timetable and assessment. Confirm whether a role is paid and what support is actually provided; an internship opportunity is not a job guarantee.

Explore an apprenticeship after qualifying

Eligible graduates and diploma holders can explore the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme. Check the current qualification and other eligibility conditions, apply to suitable opportunities and read the training contract. Registration does not guarantee selection or permanent employment.

Coming to India? Check your permission

Do not assume that a student visa authorises ordinary employment. Ask your institution and the relevant authority what your status permits before accepting paid work or an internship. For all applicants, choose additional skills around the field you want to enter.

A little more clarity.

Useful answers to bring into your next conversation.

Both. The first two routes cover school-leavers and graduates already in India. “Coming to India” covers applicants from overseas; admission categories and immigration requirements need individual checks.
