Hungarian universities run a wide English-taught undergraduate offer, and the medical faculties in Debrecen, Szeged, Pécs and Budapest are the best known internationally. Fees vary far more by subject than by city.

One university publishes 2026/27 general medicine at USD 16,900 a year over twelve semesters and non-medical bachelor's programmes at USD 6,500 to 7,500. Price the whole programme, not year one.

The fee is not in forints
One university publishes 2026/27 international fees in US dollars — general medicine at USD 16,900 a year, dentistry at USD 17,500, pharmacy at USD 8,000 — with a USD 150 application fee and a USD 350 entrance examination fee. Another publishes its medical programme in euros at EUR 15,800 a year. You will pay rent in forints, so the exchange movement is yours.

The scholarship exempts you from tuition and pays a monthly stipend of HUF 43,700 for bachelor's and master's students, a dormitory place or HUF 40,000 a month towards accommodation, and medical insurance up to HUF 65,000 a year. The programme states plainly that these provisions are partial and must be supplemented from your own funds.

The study residence permit is granted for one to three years and extended on academic progress. The authority may refuse an extension if you have not completed your studies within one and a half times the normal period of study. A failed year is an immigration problem as well as an academic one.

Stipendium Hungaricum: application plus nomination
Submit through the official online system and satisfy your sending partner’s nomination requirements. The scholarship covers tuition and contributes to living, accommodation and insurance, but the programme expressly says students need additional resources. Check award amounts and eligible courses in the current call.

Institutional discounts are common and rarely advertised prominently. One medical faculty publishes an early-admission reduction, a sibling discount and an alumni-children discount, each worth EUR 300 a semester. Ask which apply to you, whether they stack, and whether they renew each year.

Thirty hours a week is a real allowance, but a medical or engineering timetable rarely leaves room for it, and the permit requires you to evidence resources rather than earn them. Assemble tuition, insurance, accommodation and twelve months of living costs from confirmed funds.

During your course
The immigration authority permits up to 30 hours weekly during the study period and full-time work outside it for a maximum of 90 days a year. Use this current authority guidance when checking a job schedule; older study-portal summaries may differ.

A graduate holding a valid study permit who has successfully completed their studies may apply for a residence permit for seeking a job or starting a business, where the intended position matches their educational level. It is granted for a maximum of nine months and cannot be extended. You must show subsistence, a Hungarian address and health insurance.

During the nine months you can apply for an employment-based permit such as the Hungarian Card or the EU Blue Card. Because the job-seeking permit has no extension, the search has to start in your final year and the conversion has to be planned.
